A rig tuned for walking topwater plugs — explosive surface strikes for reds, trout, and bass.

- Rod
- 7'0" Medium, Moderate-fast (softer tip so fish don't pull off)
- Reel
- 3000 spinning or a 6.x baitcaster
- Main line
- 15–20 lb braid
- Leader
- 25–30 lb monofilament (floats, cushions the strike)
- Hook
- Factory trebles (upgrade to quality/inline)
- Rig
- Direct to plug via loop knot
- Lure / bait
- Walking topwater plug (spook-style), poppers
- Knot
- Loop knot for free walking action; FG to leader
Why this setup works
A moderate tip and stretchy mono leader keep pinned trebles from tearing out on violent surface strikes, and the loop knot lets the plug walk.
