Haywire Twist
The connection for single-strand wire leader — the only reliable way to secure a hook to hard wire.
wireIntermediateStrength 4/5wire
How to tie it
- 1Pass the wire through the hook eye and cross it back over the standing wire.
- 2Twist both wires around each other evenly 4–5 times (a true X-twist, not one wrapping the other).
- 3Then make 4–5 tight barrel wraps with the tag around the standing wire.
- 4Bend the tag into a small handle and rock it back and forth until it snaps clean (don't cut — leaves a burr).
Common mistakes
- One wire wrapping the other instead of a symmetric twist (weak)
- Cutting the tag instead of breaking it clean
When not to use it
Cable/multi-strand wire — use crimps instead.
