Snell Knot

Ties line to the shank of a hook (especially circle hooks) for a straight-line pull and better hookups.

How to tie it

  1. 1Pass the tag through the eye and along the shank, leaving a loop hanging below the hook.
  2. 2Wrap the loop around the shank and line 6–8 times, working toward the eye.
  3. 3Hold the wraps and pull the standing line to draw the loop tight against the shank.
  4. 4Seat the wraps neatly and trim the tag.

Common mistakes

  • Wraps overlapping instead of neat
  • Snelling an eye that isn't inline for circle hooks
