Arbor Knot

Attaches your line (or backing) to the reel spool so it can't spin freely.

How to tie it

  1. 1Wrap the line around the spool arbor.
  2. 2Tie an overhand knot around the standing line.
  3. 3Tie a second overhand knot in the tag end (as a stopper).
  4. 4Pull the standing line so the first knot slides to the spool and the stopper jams against it; trim.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting the stopper knot (slips)
  • Not adding backing under slick braid (braid spins on the spool)

When not to use it

Nowhere else — it's only for spooling up.
