High-Low (Chicken) Rig
Two dropper hooks stacked above a bottom sinker, presenting two baits at slightly different heights. A surf and pier staple.
When to use it
- Surf and pier bottom fishing
- Presenting two baits at once
- Panfish-of-the-sea (whiting, croaker, pompano)
Strengths
- Two baits/two depths = more bites
- Simple, effective bottom rig
- Great for numbers of smaller fish
Weaknesses
- Tangles if droppers are long
- Not for big single trophy fish
Key facts
Best species: Pompano, whiting, croaker, sea bass, porgies
Common mistakes
- Dropper loops too long (tangle)
- Hooks too big for the target panfish
