Electric Reel
A powered conventional reel that cranks baits up from extreme depths at the push of a button. Used for deep-drop fishing well beyond hand-cranking range.
When to use it
- Deep-drop fishing (600–1500+ ft)
- Swordfish daytime deep-drop
- Tilefish, deep snapper/grouper
Strengths
- Handles depths that are impractical to hand-crank
- Consistent retrieve, counts line out
Weaknesses
- Expensive, needs boat power
- Removes much of the hand-to-hand fight
